HONOLULU – The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Design and Construction will begin emergency drainage repairs on a section of Magellan Avenue on October 12, 2026. The project, expected to last four months, will repair an underground drain line that collapsed.
The project, awarded to JBC Engineering & Construction, LLC, will include installing temporary erosion and sediment control, removing trees and vegetation, excavating, replacing guardrails, implementing traffic control measures, restoring grass, and restoring the asphalt roadway. The following traffic impacts are expected:
Dole Community Park
To provide a safe, centralized space for materials and equipment, a staging area has been in place in front of Dole Community Park since September 21, 2026. Parking in front of Dole Community Park will be prohibited for the duration of the project.
Magellan Avenue
Beginning October 12, 2026, Magellan Avenue will be closed between Miller Street and Alapa‘i Street 24/7 for the duration of this project. Local traffic may pass through the area to access their properties. The contractor will coordinate and manage local area traffic for businesses and residents, including deliveries, trash collection, and emergency services.
The upcoming work will cause some dust and noise in the surrounding area. The contractor will use appropriate measures to limit construction debris and other nuisances. The City appreciates the public’s assistance and cooperation during this project, as well as the community’s patience and support.
