Roof repairs begin for bathroom buildings at Kokololio Beach Park
O‘AHU – Work to repair the roofs of two bathroom buildings (comfort stations) at Kokololio Beach Park began this week, April 20, 2026. Both public facilities will remain closed while the renovations are in progress, with portable toilets provided and beach showers remaining available for park users.
The bathrooms on the south side of the beach park are expected to be repaired, and reopened to the public, by the end of April 2026. Repairs to the other bathroom building, on the northern, Lā‘ie-end of the park, are expected to take several months with an expected reopening date before the end of Summer 2026.
The nearly $220,000 roofing contract for this project was awarded to Moriyama Construction.
The roughly 15.5-acre beach park in between Hau‘ula and Lā‘ie features five campsites available for five-day camping from Friday afternoon until Wednesday morning. Permitted camping at these sites will remain available during the bathroom renovations.

The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Parks and Recreation manages 222 stand-alone comfort stations around the island of O‘ahu. From 2015 to 2025, in-house and contracted work resulted in 179 major renovation projects for these highly utilized, and often vandalized, public facilities.
